Again, I know nothing of the ancestry of this cane, but it is also called "Old Timey Green" in our area. Could this be D-74? It is very soft, makes a large barrel, is full of sweet juice and makes an excellent syrup. However, it does not come back from stubble well at all. A friend told me this is the least frost-tolerant cane he has, and I am prone to agree. It is a bright green cane, but will turn yellow and have light red blotches when exposed to the sun. If this cane just had the growth characteristics of the South Florida Sugar Stock, it would be a winner. |
