South Florida Sugar Stock

Picture of South Florida Sugar Stock

A County Agent brought this cane into south Alabama from south Florida and since I do not know anything about it, I simply call it South Florida Sugar Stock. It must surely be a Japanese cane in origin. It is slender, very hard, hardy, prolific, and though I do nothing to protect the stubble, it is the first cane up in the spring. The difficulty stripping this cane and its low yield of juice makes this the least desirable cane. I do, though, keep growing some for the novelty of it. This is the "Bermuda Grass" of my sugar cane.
